It was a warm and dry day with a big hill that needed running up.
We had our ladies team out, unfortunately there were no team prizes for this one
which is just as well as only one of them was wearing her Strollers Vest (well done Anne).
We'll have none of that at the next race at Tynedale, ladies. Get them vests worn, there's prizes to be won!
There was the usual moaning and groaning before hand about how long the grass was,
how high the hill was, how hot the weather was but that all stopped when the starting gun went..
or was it a whistle.. it may even have been Kevin Carr shouting "Go!".
I really ought to pay attention next year!
Anyway, the race was soon over, and without incident this year, apart from the leader falling down a pot hole next to the monument.
Leading Stroller was Ray (pictured) who finished 10th overall.
Ray appears to have begun his conversion from being a true fell runner to becoming a road runner as he can clearly be seen to be wearing a watch.
No real fell runner would be seen dead with a watch, every ounce counts!
Uncle Richie finished 74th out of 74 but at least he didn't get lost this time!
Quote of the day has to go to Angus, who lives in Sunderland but missed the start of the race because.. "I couldn't find Penshaw Hill".
It's the biggest, highest landmark in the area, visible for tens of miles in all directions and he couldn't find it!
That has to be the 2nd best excuse for missing a race in Strollers history.
The best must still be Ian Maxwell's excuse for missing the Great North Run one year when he claimed he hurt his back while making a cheese sandwich the night before the race!
