Great North Run Results 2003

Below are the Strollers who completed the Great North Run in 2003. Before the race I thought there were only 8-10 doing it but so far I've got 25 results!
If anyone is missing from the list or your details are incorrect/incomplete then let me know.

Performances of note include:

Angelo Angelo who wimped out and chose to slip on an empty bottle and twist his ankle rather than have a true race with Mario.
That leaves Mario as the current Jaconelli Champion!

Actually, I'm not completely convinced that Angelo did this on purpose as he chose to do it in front of Woody who he then went to for medical assistance.
If he'd faked it then surely he'd have waited for one of the good looking, young St.John's lasses who would know what she was doing.

Paul Paul Dunlop also beat his brother for only the second time.
A couple of seconds in the Tynedale 10k and a country mile in the GNR!

As Paul joined the Strollers specifically to get trained up to beat his brother in this race, I think he owes us all a pint now that we've succeeded.
He can buy me the pint, I'll let you know how enjoyable it was!
(Additional: the pint has now been bought, it was an interesting, dark cider imported specially from France. Others that owe me pints, take note, that's the way to do it!)

We have a group of Strollers around 2:25-2:30 who haven't given me their proper times yet, come on people, don't be shy!

We'll get them all trained up for next year so everyone beats the 2 hours and then they'll be 'phoning me with their times for the website instead of me having to pester them for it!

Mike My excuse for 2:18 is that I was knackered after pushing a wheelchair around the course.

The owner was a friend of Chairman Phil's called Mike Constable. He was in a motor bike accident last year which left him unable to run and he needed a little assistance around the course.

Our claim to fame is that we were the last 2 people at the start when the gun went, it took 21 minutes just to reach the start line.
We finished in 25932 and 25933 place so we overtook 12,000 others!

Only one real accident along the way when the front wheels of the chair got stuck in the expansion joint at the start of the Tyne Bridge and threw poor Mike on the floor (sorry Mike!)
Still, no harm done and he thoroughly enjoyed the experience (the race that is, not eating gravel)

Also, a thank you to that chap who noticed I was knackered and pushed Mike for nearly a mile up the hill from Mile 11 to near the top of Marsden Bank.
I'm not sure if Mike even noticed he'd had a change of engine, but I certainly did!
