Sunderland Strollers

Farringdon Cross Country Relays 13th September 2003

PaulDunlop The Auld Buggers beat the young 'uns in this pleasant, undulating run around the fields beside Farringdon school. No burnt out cars to dodge this year!
The weather was warm, breezy and dry. Typical cross country weather, really.. .

The Strollers had 4 complete men's teams finish at Farringdon this year, no other club had more. This was split into 2 vets teams and 2 senior teams although where team manager Woody expected to get 2 full senior teams from is anyone's guess and the senior B team was made up entirely of vets.

Fastest Stroller on the day was Ken Maynard, well done Ken, in a time of 11m22s. I'd have his picture on here but he went past Foto-Phil so fast that Phil missed him and just got another blurred shot of the grass.
Instead, we have a picture of the flying doctor, Paul Dunlop, the final runner in the senior A team. We've never seen him run so fast but he was on call that day and his team mates told him his pager had gone off half a mile from the end. We'll be in touch with the IAAF to see if that's an allowable tactic in future!

The event turned into a bit of a challenge when it was suggested that the senior A team and the vets A team should have a little wager on this race with the losers buying a round for the winners and experience triumphed over youth when the vets won by over 2 minutes! We're looking forward to our pints, lads.

A few more of Foto-Phil's pictures can be found in the gallery.

The event appears to have been excellently organised by the hosts with multiple races passing off without a hitch and results available very soon after the completion of each race.
Our thanks go to all officials and others involved.
