Dear Sunderland Strollers It was with some alarm that our attention was drawn to the fact that our respected and much loved character Wallace had been seen 'moonlighting' in a less than effective disguise for a purveyor of pushchairs! I'm sure you'll agree that no-one can accuse us of lacking a sense of humour, however, we'd appreciate it if 'Woody' saw fit to take an early retirement! Perhaps he might re-incarnate in an original and un-Wallace like form. Thanking you in anticipation, Mike Cooper, Web Producer Aardman Animations Ltd. ############################################################################### Dear Mike, Your not half as miffed as we were when we found that, on the internet, our RUNNING clubs name is associated with pushchairs! Your Wallace bears an incredible resemblance to our beloved race secrertary, Woody and just removing the moustache and spec's didn't fool us for a minute! But since we're a fun loving, non too serious, non-profit making running club we didn't mind you using his likeness in your animations. On the serious side, I assume you have looked at the content of the Sunderland Strollers Web site.and realise that we are not a commercial enterprise, we sell nothing and that the image in question just puts a smile on the faces those unfortunate enough to surf by our site. If you really want the picture removing, let me know and I'll remove it. But perhaps you would compromise and I'll put a link to your site on our page or an acknowledgement of (c)...etc. Paul Dixon. ############################################################################### Dear Paul Thanks for your e-mail. Our attitude to the Net and 'Netiquette' is essentially one of 'give and take' and mutual responsibility. I wrote in the first place because Woody was pointed out to us by a US W&G fan who stumbled across the image when searching for pushchairs (termed 'strollers' in the US). Our feeling is that Woody distorts our copyright character. We don't want to be seen as the big corp leaning on the little guy but if, for example, you saw your club characterised as pushchair manufacturers on someone else's site wouldn't you want to ask them to correct their error? We have a whole lot of amateur fansites and we don't try to restrict their use of our copyright images as long as they don't distort or misrepresent our characters. So please don't use Wallace in this way. Best regards, Mike Cooper Web Producer Aardman Animations ############################################################################ Mike, << Our feeling is that Woody distorts our copyright character.>> Woody (he's a real person aka John Woodward) will be chuffed that HE distorts YOUR character, we always thought Wallace was based on him! Hard cheese Woody, your image belongs to that 'ard man! You'll have to run with a bag on your head in future! I'll remove the 'offending' picture this weekend. Paul Dixon.
